Legal Information and Access

CWEALF’s Legal Education Program works to guarantee equal access to legal, educational and social service systems. To do so, CWEALF draws on a combination of strategies, including Information & Referral, Advocacy and Community Education.

Information and Referral

Please call 860.524.0601 if you need legal information or reach us by email here.

Information and Referral (I & R) is a unique service that provides information on family matters, equal education for women and girls, workplace issues and discrimination. CWEALF’s I & R staff help clients navigate the systems involved in these cases by explaining the law in easy to understand terms. CWEALF supplements this basic information service by providing referrals to attorneys and other service providers. If you have legal questions and would like to use our I & R service, please click here.

Advocacy

CWEALF provides advocacy services when individuals encounter barriers to independently resolving their legal issues. CWEALF’s goal is to work with the client to remove any barriers and provide them with information and resources to navigate the rest of the process independently. No other agency provides this combination of legal education and advocacy and at no cost!

Community Education

In addition to helping individuals navigate legal and social service systems through the I&R service, CWEALF also provides know-your-rights workshops on topics such as family law (divorce, custody, child support and restraining orders) and employment discrimination (sexual harassment in the workplace, pregnancy discrimination, and FMLA).

If you are interested in having a CWEALF staff person provide your agency or school with legal information on one of our specialty topics, please email us at cwealf@cwealf.org. If your organization, school, or business is in need of a workshop on an issue not already covered, please contact us and we will try to accommodate your needs.
