Cooperating Attorneys

CWEALF's role within the community would not be possible without the dedication and efforts of attorneys in the Cooperating Attorneys Program. Attorneys can volunteer their services in critical ways by providing their expertise, writing amicus briefs, updating our legal booklets and brochures, participating on a Board of Director's subcommittee, and leading presentations and workshops on legal rights.

As part of our Legal Education Program, CWEALF provides an Information & Referral (I&R) service on issues related to family matters, equal education for girls and women, workplace issues, and discrimination. Cooperating Attorneys make this program possible by training our staff and joining our list of referral attorneys.

CWEALF's I&R service fills an essential gap in Connecticut's legal services by providing free legal information and referrals. Around 75% of our clients have an annual income below $25,000 a year. Therefore, we ask our Referral Attorneys to help us accommodate the majority of the people who come to us for help by providing an initial free consultation to the clients we refer and a payment plan or sliding scale fee to a referred client who might not otherwise be able to afford representation.

CWEALF values the time and effort the Cooperating Attorneys donate to our agency and clients. CWEALF's staff will work with you to ensure your experience is positive by identifying your interests according to practice specialties and geographic locations, the number of cases you would like referred to you, etc.
